Implement of an on-line
model for predicting and controlling the coil cold spot temperature during batch annealing
has resulted in a major decrease in product yield tensile strength variability (reduction
in standard deviation) by more than 20%. A mean cold spot temperature prediction error of
-0.25 F and 1.20 F has been achieved for 2 and 3 charges, respectively.
