"ROLLING
MILL PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT"
Abstract: An audit is a
structured process to investigate the performance of a rolling mill or some other metal
processing facility. Audits review equipment, automation and operating practices to
determine how these impact on quality and productivity.
Typical Outcomes Are:
Performance Benchmark that establishes where the mill or facility stands
with respect to industry best practice,
Recommendations and a plan defining how to achieve the required
performance improvements and
Diagnosis of the cause of specific processing problems and solutions to
rectify these.
The paper describes the auditing process and several successful case studies on hot and
cold steel and aluminium rolling mills. Implementing the recommendations of these audits
has resulted in significant improvements in yield, throughput, and quality. mailto:hatchias_info@hatch.ca for a copy of this paper.
