"MODELLING AND SUPRESSION OF ROLLING MILL CHATTER"

Abstract: Models for 3rd and 5th octave chatter and the subsequent development of chatter suppression methods are presented. The third octave chatter model has been used to predict maximum rolling speeds and has also enabled the development of a noval chatter suppression device. The fifth octave model represents a significant advancement in the understanding of this phenomena and provides a method of estimating the growth rate of backup roll corrugations.
