Modern automation systems for
single stand rolling mills are highly integrated and achieve remarkable levels of
performance in the areas of thickness control, flatness control and production throughput.
A review is provided of current technology and the typical performance levels achieved.
New innovations in thickness and flatness control are described and an overview given of
the mathematical models needed to complete an integrated mill automation system.
